Implementing the Unmasked Message...

Changing Nations

Steve Weber, pictured with wife Kristi, has been the head of Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in Kiev, Ukraine, for the past 20 years, reaching eleven former Soviet Republics with the Gospel. He is an enthusiastic advocate of the message we carry. Not only has he invited us to minister in Ukraine numerous times, but he also spearheaded and funded the translation of our Unmasked book into Russian, which is now being distributed in these Russian-speaking nations.

Steve is using our message to impact the former Soviet Union in numerous ways. He reports that Unmasked was instrumental in the foundation of The Circle of Responsibility, a new department of their mission. In his own words, he said this: "Jim's book Unmasked and his continuing visits to Ukraine where he taught and ministered God's truths about sexuality were the foundation for this new ministry. The mission of this department is to sow God’s design for human sexuality into culture and promote healing and wholeness in this area of people's lives. Our dream is that this vision will spread to other CBN offices in nations around the world."

The symbol for their ministry is O3 (the symbol for ozone) which protects the earth from negative ultraviolet rays. Each "O" represents the Russian word for 1. Responsibility: taking responsibility for your actions and taking a positive leadership role, 2. Relationship: healing of relationships, and 3. Fatherhood: providing protection. When all three of these things are present in a culture, people are protected from the negative effects of wrongly-lived-out sexuality.

One of their first goals was to combat the destructive force of pornography and promote healthy, Biblical-grounded relationships. They believe the global church is waking up to the destructive consequences of its failure to have candid conversations regarding God’s design for sexuality, sexual identity, and relationships. In order to proactively facilitate restoration, they have produced multiple videos addressing this topic on the Antiporno.tv site where they highlight some of the best Christian resources and testimonies targeting this topic and dub them into Russian in order to reach their target group. Additionally, they conduct training seminars on sexual addiction counseling and healing people from the negative effects of their sexual pasts. They established a free 24/7 on-line chat-line where trained staff offer prayer and counseling on sexual issues to those who call in.

Is it working? Yes, it is! In their first year of Antiporno.tv, they received 100,000 visits. Steve said the average person listened for three minutes to testimonies of people sharing stories of healing and restoration from destructive sexual pasts--a really good response! We honor Steve and his team at CBN for having the faith and determination to address these issues in order to bring change to a hurting culture!

My life was changed at the Unmasked conference . . .

I grew up in a Christian home, accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was young, and fully surrendered my life to Him in junior high. However, when my best friend was killed in a snowboarding accident, and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer—all within the period of a year—I dealt with my pain by partying and doing drugs. After being raped at a party, I felt disgusting, unwanted, used, unworthy, depressed, and broken. I became completely numb to everything and everyone around me.

During this period, a close friend called and invited me to a Lifeline Ministries Unmasked conference. I flew to Spokane and remember walking into the conference scared and unsure of what was going to happen. Jim asked for an altar call and prayed for people who had been sexually abused. Something happened in the following moments that I can’t put into words—it was like a burden was lifted. I could feel again and knew the Father’s love and acceptance.

This began a journey that has changed my life. A few weeks after this encounter, I got on a plane and flew to Hawaii where I began a YWAM discipleship training school. The Lord awakened in me a desire to see women’s lives changed by His love and the message of purity. I always had strong convictions about purity, but after the rape I felt like I could no longer live out my calling.

Through this ministry my love for God and people has been awakened. I am working on starting up small groups at my university campus to talk about topics not commonly talked about in the church—sex, purity, and healthy relationships. Thank you, Jim Anderson and Lifeline Ministries, for obediently carrying the message of purity, healing, and restoration.
